What Does "Kaleo" Mean?
Kaleo comes from the Greek word for "to call" or "to
invite." God's call on each of our lives is so unique and incredible
to watch. God's call has different ways of expressing itself in
each individual, culture, and community.
When we respond to God's call on our lives to enter into a personal
relationship with Him, His Holy Spirit gives us the power to become
others-oriented. Kaleo is focused on helping emerging leaders hear
their "kaleo" call and to take part in community and societal
transformation. We believe this demands that we respond to both
the physical and spiritual needs of our poor neighbors throughout
the world. Our prayer is that we would remain faithful to God's
calling, whether or not it looks successful in the world's eyes.
We welcome you to journey together with us!
Check out the following Scriptures that use the Greek word kaleo
to describe God's call: Mark 2:17; Luke 14:13; John 10:3; Rom.4:7;
I Thes. 5:24; I Peter 1:15; II Tim. 1:9; Eph 4:1; I John 3:1
What is indigenous leadership?
We believe that those who will have the most impact on the urban
community are those individuals who are native to the community.
Since they already speak the language and know the culture, we believe
that indigenous leaders are the most important people to encourage
and equip. Therefore, we seek to identify and nurture young leaders
who have an obvious calling from God on their lives to minister
in their own urban community.
What is a Church Planting
Movement?
A rapid and exponential increase of indigenous churches planting
churches within a given people group or population segment.
Global Perspective:
We believe in investing into some of the most impoverished
areas of the world and thereby helping build global community among
the poorest of the poor. We plan to support efforts of advancing
the gospel through equipping indigenous church leaders and upholding
an extremely high value of social justice. We hope to expose ourselves
to and serve some of the poorest and war-torn areas of the world
through trips abroad. Economic and community development are the
main ways we empower churches and leaders to continue advancing
the gospel in their country.
Holistic Ministry:
Ministring the whole gospel to the whole person through evangelism,
social action, and discipleship. Thus encouraging the person to
be reconciled to God, self, others and creation.
Microfinance/Microenterprise:
Kaleo promotes rotating savings and credit associations
and provides access to credit and training to low-income entrepreneurs
throughout the two-third’s world.
