Kaleo is focused on developing Christian
communities among poor, persecuted, and
un-reached
people.
This includes urban America, with a current focus on Boston.

Our Values
- We value God's mission to seek and save the lost through proclaiming
and demonstrating the good news of Jesus Christ. (1)
- We believe that we must be socially aware, responsible followers
of Christ on a local and global level. We desire to help those who
cannot help themselves and to become a voice for the voiceless.
We believe justice begins by solidarity with poor communities.(2)
- We value having a high level of accountability to each
other, to our neighbors, and most of all to Jesus Christ whom we
represent. We understand that God's church community is local, global
and historical.
- We value living among the people we serve. (3,4)
- The church is not called to consume resources but to help people
find identity in Christ. We will strive to lead economically simple
lifestyles, focusing on what we need and not on what we want and
using any excess to help others.(5)
- In the midst of such a fast-paced and entertainment-oriented society,
we value spending extended time alone in prayer and reflection.(6)
- We value learning through disciplined study of Scripture, literature,
and empirical research. (7)
- We value learning that takes place outside of the classroom, whether
it is through serving, listening, speaking, or watching.
(1)"The
Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to
preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives, and recovery of sight to the
blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the
acceptable year of the Lord." - Luke 4:18-19
(2) "Open your mouth for the speechless, In the cause of all
who are appointed to die. Open your mouth, judge righteously, And
plead the cause of the poor and needy." - Proverbs 31:8-9
(3) "The word became flesh and blood and moved into the neighborhood."
–John 1:14 (The Message)
(4) "Who being in very nature God, did not consider equality
with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking
the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness."
– Philippians 2:6-7
(5) "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that
though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you
through His poverty might become rich." - 2 Corinthians 8:9
(6) "Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight,
He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed."
- Mark 1:35
(7) "Study to show thyself approved unto God." 2 Timothy
2:15, (KJV)
Our Focus
We believe that ministry begins with the poor and
oppressed. Jesus was very intentional about reaching out to those
on the fringes, to those who society deemed worthless. Paul described
it this way: "Though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became
poor, that you through His poverty might become rich" (2 Cor.
8:9).
We believe that growth, as both a Christian and
minister, cannot occur apart from experience. Effective Christian
leadership is more about developing a lifestyle than attaining a
degree.
We believe that those who will have the most impact
on the urban community are those individuals who are native to the
community. Since they already speak the language and know the culture,
we believe that indigenous leaders are the most important people
to encourage and equip. Therefore, we seek to identify and nurture
young leaders who have an obvious calling from God on their lives
to minister in their own urban community.
We seek to work with churches and non-profit organizations
that are already making a major impact on the community we serve.
We believe that God is already working in all of these groups; our
desire is to see where God is already at work and join Him there,
making sure we play our part effectively.
